Integrating social and your website via a "homeland/embassy" strategy makes perfect sense.
In this piece, +Social Media Explorer makes the case that a website is like the homeland is to countries, and social presence is like embassies.
Not only an excellent analogy but an excellent compliment to the pieces I've written about websites being a content hub that feeds social networks. Using the same analogy, content is like the ambassadors and key staff sent from the homeland to embassies to engage the communities those embassies serve.
Analogies aside, the article also suggests the integration of social into websites via say a live Twitter feed or social log-in. Again, I concur.
The bottom line is that this is yet another case for why websites are not dead and will not die anytime soon.
